vacuum cleaner for hardwood floor and pet?

i just have a pet and her hair is everywhere. i need a vacuum cleaner that is not to expensive but can get the job done without damaging my hardwood floor. any suggestion for the vacuum cleaner and where i can find it cheap? dyson is so expensive that i can't afford it right now.
