looking for a vacuum for old hardwood floors with spaces between the boards. suggestions from experience?

the floors are 150 years old, so there are visible cracks where dust hides every sweeping, then an hour later once it's been walked on a few times the dust is back. i'm allergic and it's really bothering my breathing.
it is rental, so i don't really want to try the sealant. it has a beuatiful patina anyway i wouldn't want to run. no prob about being longwinded - would rather get a full answer! thanks!!!
