yes, you can vacum a floor, but make sure the suction area does have a protective material around it to provent scratching. Also, a follow up with a Swifter is best. Swifter’s Rock!
Upright vac’s. aren’t really meant to be used on hardwood, or vinyl for that matter. Some of them will have a setting where the revolving brush roll doesn’t revolve and they will claim that at that setting use of the machine on hardwood or vinyl is not only safe, but preferred. That’s mostly crap. The best scenario for hardwood and vinyl if you need to vacuum, is a cannister with a hose and bare floor attachment, with soft natural fiber bristles, (not plastic). Several of the better vac. manufacturers use horse mane or tail hair as the bristles on their upholstery dusting tools and on their bare floor tools, these are the best.
