How do I polish a hardwood floor (without having to strip the wax and without having to reapply wax)?

A janitorial service said that they could vacuum, mop and polish hardwood floors, but bc I am short on $ (no paying job at the moment) wanted to do it myself on a weekend. Any suggestions regarding supplies/equipment I need and technique involved will be appreciated (I am not a professional housecleaner).

Does anyone know of a cordless upright vacuum that is safe for use on my polyurethane coated hardwood floors?

My floor refinisher recommends vacuums that have rubber wheels and that are suction only ie. with no rotating bristles. I want a simple cordless for everyday crumb pick-up. I will use a canister dirt devil for more heavy duty cleaning. Thanks!
